Happiness and Magical Moments at Bert's Big Adventure Fall Reunion and Magazine Reveal

On Sunday, September 30th, 2012 Bert Weiss of Q100's The Bert Show and his wife Stacey hosted their fall reunion and the launch of the latest issue of Bert's Big Adventure's award-winning, self-published magazine, Magical Moments at LEGOLAND Discovery Center Atlanta

Over 70+ families enjoyed full use of all the attractions at the LEGOLAND Discovery Center including a tour to the LEGO® factory, watching movies at the amazing LEGO® 4D Cinema, and killing dragons and skeletons at Kingdom Quest. Dinner was generously donated by Davio's Northern Italian Steakhouse.

Established in 2002, Bert’s Big Adventure is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides a magical, all-expenses-paid, five-day journey to Walt Disney World® for children with chronic and terminal illnesses and their families. To qualify for Bert’s Big Adventure, children must be between the ages of 5 and 12, live in “The Bert Show” radio listening area, prove financial need and have never been to Walt Disney World®.

Bert's Big Adventure is more than just an organization that takes kids to Disney World.  This is a place were happiness prevail and lasting friendships are established.

Bert Weiss is the voice and spirit of the organization while her wife Stacey is without a doubt the heart of the organization.

We asked Stacey Weiss, Executive Director of Bert's Big Adventure what is the biggest challenge the organization is currently facing: "Growth is definitive one.

Bert's Big Adventure is currently on it's 10th year and once a family is selected they remain part of the organization.

I have kids that started with us when they were 8 years old and are going to college this year. We are looking for ways to help them get scholarships."

"As an organization we face many challenges. For example with the economic recession many of our families have lost their homes because they are straddled with medical bills. It breaks my heart and I wish I could find a way to help them," explained  Weiss.

Bert's Big Adventure has been blessed with wonderful sponsors.  "We always reach our fundraising goals every year" said Bert Weiss.

Bert's Big Adventure expanded their services and are now offering "The Fairy Godparent Volunteer Program", sponsored by Carter’s Babies & Kids/Osh KoshB’Gosh.

This programs allows Bert’s Big Adventure families to be visited on a daily basis when their child is admitted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (Children’s) at either the Egleston or Scottish Rite campus.

A team has been put into place so that when the organization is notified that a child has been admitted, the head Fairy Godparent will schedule volunteer visits throughout the child’s stay.

These visits last approximately 1-2 hours.  Bert’s Big Adventure will provide each volunteer with resources so that gifts, necessities and food can be provided on each visit. To become a "Fairy Godparent" all you have to do is go online and fill out an application.
